INDEPENDENT • STUDENT-LED • RESEARCH
T1D in Motion is researching the experiences of athletes and coaches to help build a future where athletes with Type 1 diabetes can participate without unnecessary barriers or misunderstanding from the people coaching them.
OUR PURPOSE
T1D in Motion was founded to explore a simple question: what happens when an athlete's coach doesn't fully understand Type 1 diabetes? The project looks at the real experiences of athletes and coaches — including moments of support, misunderstanding, communication, and barriers to participation.
The long-term goal is to use what we learn to write an independent research paper and, eventually, develop a short educational course designed to help coaches better understand and support athletes with T1D.
THE RESEARCH
T1D in Motion is collecting perspectives from both sides of the coaching relationship. Athlete and coach responses will help identify common experiences, gaps in understanding, and opportunities for better support.

WHERE THIS IS GOING
Collect athlete and coach experiences through the current surveys.
Analyze the responses and identify meaningful themes across experiences.
Develop an independent research paper based on what the project learns.
Use the findings to build a short, practical course for coaches about supporting athletes with T1D.
YOUR EXPERIENCE MATTERS
Whether you're an athlete with T1D or a coach who has worked with athletes with T1D, your perspective can add something important to this project.
ABOUT THE FOUNDER
T1D in Motion was founded by Iris Ewasko, a student-athlete who wanted to turn a concern about the athletic experiences of people with Type 1 diabetes into an independent research project.
Iris is building T1D in Motion around listening first: learning directly from athletes and coaches, documenting what the research shows, and working toward practical education that can help coaches become more informed and supportive.
